Call to Artists!
Both emerging and established artists working in all visual media for City Repair’s 7th Annual Village Building Convergence (VBC7) Art Gallery, May 18 - May 27, 2007
“Hail, Guardians of the Watchtowers of the East, Powers of Air! We invoke you and call you, Golden Eagle of the Dawn, Star-seeker, Rising Sun, Come!” –Starhawk, The Spiral Dance
For centuries the four directions have been invoked in rituals from healing ceremonies to vision quests. This year for the VBC7 Art Gallery we invite you to invoke these sacred energies through your art as we impart on the communal journey that is VBC. Each wall will be dedicated to a particular direction (East, West, North, South) that will be hung with work that loosely corresponds to the affiliation of that direction. Through your artistic vision, you will assist in firmly orienting us to our common place.
To submit,* please provide:
1. Brief explanation of the directional affiliation of your work (i.e., what is the particular connection between the art you are submitting and a specific direction – East, West, North, or South?)
2. Digital images of your work, if this is not possible, please email me

5. Dimensions
6. Artist’s Statement
7. Contact Information
8. No more than 4 entries
*You’re beautiful, talented, and we love you, but submissions will ~not~ be accepted after April 22nd

East: Air, higher spiritual vision, healing, new birth, intuition, knowledge, the mind, theory, high mountain peaks, season of spring, birds (especially eagles and hawks), dawn
West: Water, emotions, love, the womb, generation, fertility, season of autumn, fish, dolphins, twilight
North: Earth, the body, growth, nature, caves, caverns, groves, metal, bones, mountains, cows, bulls, stags, season of winter, midnight
South: Fire, energy, spirit, heat, blood, life, sap, sun, volcanoes, eruptions, season of summer, noon
